A clever solution for this is a so-called <strong>Corporate Power Purchase Agreement <\/strong>(PPA), i.e. a <strong>Long-term electricity supply contract<\/strong>that companies conclude directly with an operator of solar parks or wind turbines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is a corporate PPA?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a contract that a company concludes with a generator for the supply of electricity. <strong>Supply of a defined quantity of electricity <\/strong>closes - <strong>at fixed conditions<\/strong> and for a <strong>certain period<\/strong>e.g. 5 or 10 years. The electricity comes from <strong>from renewable sources<\/strong> such as photovoltaic or wind power plants. Through PPAs, the company not only receives <strong>Planning security<\/strong> and is protected from price fluctuations on the electricity market, but can also make the use of green energy part of his <strong>Sustainability strategy <\/strong>prove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How do companies benefit from a PPA?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Customised contract:<\/strong>&nbsp;Contracts are drawn up bilaterally and can be customised to the customer's individual requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Climate protection:<\/strong>&nbsp;Companies improve their carbon footprint, promote the energy transition and can credibly advance their own climate protection strategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Image gain:<\/strong>&nbsp;Sustainability becomes measurable and visible for customers, partners and investors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Planning security:<\/strong>&nbsp;Price certainty has a positive effect on other investments and predictable operating costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What types of PPAs are there?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are different forms of PPAs that are concluded between energy producers and companies. These four forms have now become established and can be easily differentiated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>PPA type<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Description of the<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Electricity supply<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Special feature<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>On-Site PPA<\/td><td>Generation plant is located on or near the company premises<\/td><td>Direct to consumer, physical PPA<\/td><td>Electricity is consumed on site<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Off-site PPA<\/td><td>Electricity from a remote plant, supplied via the public grid.<\/td><td>Via electricity grid, allocated on the balance sheet, physical PPA<\/td><td>Suitable for longer distances between producer and consumer<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sleeved PPA<\/td><td>Like off-site PPA, but with energy supplier involved<\/td><td>Via energy supplier, physical PPA<\/td><td>Supplier takes over billing, residual electricity, risk management<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Synthetic\/virtual PPA<\/td><td>No physical delivery route; electricity is sold on the exchange, company continues to purchase electricity via the supplier.<\/td><td>No direct physical delivery<\/td><td>Financial compensation depending on the market price; stable price for both sides<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practical example: Ardagh Glass Packaging<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The company <strong>Ardagh Glass Packaging <\/strong>together with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunnic.de\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sunnic.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sunnic Lighthouse<\/a> <\/strong>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enerparc.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ENERPARC AG<\/strong> <\/a>a <strong>Off-site PPA<\/strong> concluded in order to <strong>around 130 GWh of sustainable solar power annually<\/strong> to obtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Annelene Ikemann<\/strong>Sustainability Director at Ardagh Glass Packaging - Europe, explains the <strong>Advantages of the new electricity supply contract<\/strong> as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\"A long-term PPA such as the one we have agreed with ENERPARC and its subsidiary Sunnic Lighthouse enables us to purchase green electricity, which we use in our new NextGen furnace in Obernkirchen. Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe previously used around 90 % of gas and 10 % of electricity in conventional furnaces. In the hybrid NextGen furnace, we currently use around 60% of green electricity and 40% of gas. The green electricity supply from Sunnic Lighthouse also brings us a big step closer to our goal of switching to 100% of renewable energy by 2030.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Solar power for Ardagh is currently still being <strong>of existing ENERPARC solar parks <\/strong>from all over Germany (off-site PPA). However, ENERPARC is already planning an off-site PPA on behalf of Ardagh. <strong>Own ground-mounted PV system <\/strong>in the <strong>Proximity to the Ardagh production site <\/strong>(on-site PPA). In future, the company will therefore be able to <strong>directly from the nearby solar park <\/strong>refer. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why are PPAs a good solution?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>PPAs are a <strong>Important driver for the expansion of renewable energies<\/strong> in Germany.
