Study - 2024/2025

Solar parks support biodiversity in our cultural landscape

For the "Biodiversity in solar parks" study, a total of 24 solar parks in ten federal states in Germany and a tracker system in Denmark analysed. The results were supplemented by investigations and analyses of other solar parks, which is why the study includes data from a total of around 30 solar parks

The Solar parks of modern design have been Different species groups analysed and were for the most part on agricultural land. This is because solar parks on agricultural land have now become the standard and represent the focus of expansion in Germany.

A total of 385 plant species, 30 grasshopper species, 36 butterfly and damselfly species, three reptile species, 32 breeding bird species and 63 bird species as foraging guests and 13 bat species. In addition 13 dragonfly species and eight amphibian species. The study comprises over 100 individual investigations and a total of 40 investigation reports.

Solar parks offer a structural diversity that is lacking in today's agricultural landscape and favours biodiversity.

Study publication

The conference to present the results of the study in Berlin on 27 March 2020 was recorded. In addition to a Panel discussion with representatives from the fields of nature conservation, politics and business in the morning, the participants had the opportunity in the afternoon to attend a Selection from four different specialised lectures to the topics Skylark, Bats and Planning-relevant information for solar parks for selection.

The recordings are now available on SonneSammeln and
the YouTube channel of the bne available.

We also provide you with a selection of solar park photos.

Presentation of study publication

The two authors of the study, Dr Tim Peschel (Ökologie & Umwelt) and Rolf Peschel (Der Projektpate), will present and classify the results of the study in detail.

Lectures Session 1

Skylarks and other bird species can build up large populations in solar parks. Biologist Matthias Stoefer cites evidence of this in his presentation and discusses current study results that he personally collected during the inspections.
In their presentation, study authors Dr Tim Peschel (Ecology & Environment) and Rolf Peschel (The Project Sponsor) will focus in particular on flora and insects as fundamental species groups, as well as on the value of structural diversity in solar parks and how this can be increased.

Presentations Session 2

study "biodiversity in the solar park"

How should solar parks be planned so that they become species-rich? Can a high level of biodiversity still develop in closely spaced PV systems? In their presentation, the two study authors Dr Tim Peschel (Ökologie & Umwelt) and Rolf Peschel (Der Projektpate) explain their findings and refer to row spacing, racks and other structures such as paths.
Today, bats find habitats in man-made structures such as barns, church towers and roofs. Bats are also learning to cope with solar parks. They also offer a rich food supply. In the lecture you will learn about the results of our study and what other findings Dr Helmut Schlumprecht was able to gather as an expert.
