The results of the comprehensive bne study to Biodiversity in ground-mounted PV systems were recognised at the Specialist conference "Biodiversity in solar parks" on 27 March 2025 in Berlin. The event attracted around 80 participants on site and reached more than 900 viewers in the livestream. Over 200 questions from the chat clearly show the broad public and professional interest in the topic. You can find out more about the conference in our Review. The recordings of the study publication in German are now on SonneSammeln in the Media centre for the study available. We are currently working on an English translation of the study results.
Lecture 6: Bats in the solar park (only in German)
Today, bats find habitats in man-made structures such as barns, church towers and roofs. Bats also learn to deal with solar parks. They also offer a rich food supply. This was also shown by the investigations in our study, which included such things as shown in the picture were carried out. In the presentation "Deep Dive: Bats in the solar park", you will learn about the results of our study and what other findings have been made. Dr Helmut Schlumprecht as an expert. Dr Schlumprecht has been studying bats in solar parks for many years and can draw on a wealth of experience.
You can find the presentation here and in our Media centre for the study.
The most important findings from the presentation:
- All Three flight and feeding types of bats are detectable in and above PV systems due to the food wealth.
- It is It is no coincidence that bats fly into PV systems, but they are deliberately looking for food. They can store an "acoustic map" in their memory and retrieve it.
- There is no concrete evidence or studies to date that fatal collisions with solar panels or rows of modules occur.
