Salmtal solar park (North)

BayWa r.e. Operation Services GmbH's Salmtal solar park is located on the edge of the Eifel region, around 1.5 kilometres east of the village of Salmtal. The plant was commissioned in 2017 and covers an area of 8 hectares.
Special features of the Salmtal site are the east-facing slope, the farm track running along the northern fence and the small water body in the eastern part of the site. Due to the significant rise in terrain to the west, different plant communities can occur within the study area. The soil moisture increases sharply towards the east until the wet soil merges into the small body of water. The water level of the watercourse varies depending on the previous amount of precipitation and soil saturation. During the study period, it always contained water, but no open water zones, as it was predominantly overgrown with vegetation. Due to the humid conditions in the site, a search was carried out for prehistoric crabs. Details can be found in the study report.

The degree of sealing is less than one per cent.

Natural environment and special features

Natural space

Mountain and hill country

Surroundings

The site is surrounded by arable crops and nearby mixed woodland. A farm track and a dense hedge with a few taller trees (overstorey) run to the north-west of the site. A railway line runs parallel to the wooded structure. To the west, east and south of the PV system are field crops, mown meadows and pastures. A motorway runs about one kilometre to the west.

Relief

The site is located in a hilly landscape in the valley area. There is a sharp rise in the terrain to the west within the site.

Biotope

The plan area is predominantly agricultural land. A small area in the north-east is a wet meadow fallow.

Description of the racks

The frames are anchored to the ground by means of driven posts without additional struts.

Type of modules

Crystalline modules with a nominal output of 265 Wp each were installed in this system.

Management

Mowing

The solar park is mowed twice a year. It is managed by two different service providers. A flail and/or forestry mulcher is used for this. Woody seedlings, e.g. along the fence, are also cut regularly to prevent shading.

Sowing regional seeds
Removal of the mown material
The mown material is not removed.

Equalisation measures

Information on compensatory measures

The compensatory measures include, for example, the preservation of a fallow area in the east of the plant. The area of the solar park is to be developed as grassland.

Further measures can be found in the enclosed environmental report.
