Wörnitzhofen solar park

The Wörnitzhofen solar park was commissioned in May 2018 and is operated by Wattmanufactur. The ground-mounted PV system is located around one kilometre north of Weitlingen in Bavaria, on an area that was previously used intensively for agriculture.

The Wörnitzhofen solar park was designed with particularly large module row spacing of 6.19 metres.

As in all Wattmanufactur solar parks, extensive cultivation is also practised in the Wörnitzhofen plant. By consistently avoiding the use of fertilisers and pesticides, the soil quality is maintained. In addition, ground-nesting birds and insects are protected by adjusting the mowing times and using double-blade mowing technology.

Description of the racks

The frames are anchored to the floor with two pile-driving posts that are cross-braced to the module tables.

Type of modules

The modules are polycrystalline.

Paths

The pathways are made from recycled cable sand, recycled concrete, recycled masonry and mineral concrete.

Management

Mowing

The area is mowed once or twice a year using a double-bar blade. Further maintenance measures include the care of woody plants. Partial grazing by sheep is planned.

Sowing regional seeds
A flower-rich mixture (regioseed) was sown. Re-slitting was carried out in 2024.
Removal of the mown material
The mown material is removed.

Equalisation measures

Information on compensatory measures

The following measures were to be implemented as part of the development plan:

Extensive grasslandExtensive permanent grassland with characteristic species inventory is to be developed, cared for and permanently maintained (mowing or grazing), mowed material is to be removed

Woody plantingContinuous planting with a width of at least five metres on all sides of the construction site, native trees and shrubs appropriate to the location, maintain as they grow and replace if they fail, minimum quality: shrubs without root balls, plant size 60-100 cm with 5-8 shoots, the types of trees and shrubs were specified

Green stripGrassland strips adjacent to woodland planting within the area are to be developed with characteristic species and mowed; mown material is to be removed. Mowing must be carried out no more than twice a year.

CEF measure on the southern sub-areaLark windows with fallow land or extensive meadow management

The compensatory measures were implemented immediately after completion of the park.
