Georgsdorf solar park
JUWI GmbH's Georgsdorf solar park is located on a former peat extraction site around two kilometres north of Georgsdorf and five kilometres south-east of the Dutch border. It covers an area of 60 hectares and was built in 2011. This makes it the oldest facility analysed as part of the study.
The wide edge areas along the central, gravelled path and the ditch running parallel to the path are striking. The edges of the site are not level, which allows rainwater to collect there and create temporary wet areas.

Natural environment and special features
Dümmer Geestniederung and Ems-Hunte-Geest
The solar park is located in an area characterised by intensive agriculture between the two sub-areas of the EU bird sanctuary V13 "Dalum-Wietmarscher Moor and Georgsdorfer Moor", which lie to the east and west of the plant. A renaturalised, former raised bog remnant with extensively farmed grassland areas borders to the north and large areas of arable land dominate to the south and immediate east. To the west of the site is Adorfer Straße with the south-north canal running parallel to it.
The site is around 20 metres above sea level and has no significant incline.

The frames are galvanised steel posts that are driven into the ground.
The modules are glass-glass modules from First-Solar.
The construction of partially sealed paths, which were designed as water-permeable gravel roads, was necessary for the delivery and access to the inverter stations.
A distance of 10-15cm from the fence to the ground allows small animals to pass through. The facility is located on a former peat extraction area or bog. The existing drainage ditches have been retained. It is therefore not a peatland PV system. However, a mixture of "solid" land and areas that are regularly under water for long periods of time have developed within the facility.
Management
The Georgsdorf solar park is mown in sections with sheep. The mowing is carried out once to three times a year. Up to 400 sheep of the hornless moorland heath breed graze the site.
Equalisation measures
The following compensatory measures were implemented:
- 6 m wide hedge with native, wild-growing, shrub-like trees appropriate to the location, with the target height corresponding to the height of the turbine (to protect the landscape and the open fields)
- Introduction of a regional seed mixture for the development of extensively managed, species-poor grassland areas
