In March 2025, the Association of Energy Market Innovators (bne) published a comprehensive study on biodiversity in modern solar farms. In 2024, the flora and fauna in 30 ground-mounted PV systems across Germany were examined and systematically evaluated for eight species groups.
The result: solar parks on agricultural land increase biodiversity in the cultural landscape. The results of the world’s most comprehensive study on biodiversity in solar parks on agricultural land are valuable for approval practices. They can help to activate and foster the biodiversity potential in solar parks.
The study aims to consolidate existing knowledge on species composition and species occurrence in ground-mounted PV systems as well as to compare claims with facts.
We are now providing an English translation to make the results accessible to a broader audience.
